Chord Clearway
Recent years have been really exciting. While some companies compete to create the world’s most expensive hi-fi, others are producing really good, really musical digital players and DACs at prices that make them genuine bargains. Same thing applies to amplifiers and speakers. It’s easy to put together an affordable system that really works. We know how good these systems can sound and the Chord Clearway cable range has been built to offer cables with level of performance to match.
As with all Chord cables - pretty much any quality connector combinations are available at a length to suit, just let us know what you require and we will get back to you!
Clearway Analogue RCA
Chord have taken the design from the award winning C-line and upgraded all the materials to produce an outstanding value for money, high-performance analogue interconnect.
The ARAY geometry conductors are heavier gauge oxygen free copper, insulation has been upgraded to FEP and the shielding is a dual-layer counter-wound heavy gauge foil design. The Clearway RCA is fitted with Chord direct silver-plated VEE 3 RCA plugs.
The improvements mean that the Clearway carries more musical detail. Dynamics are better, instruments and voices sound more realistic and there is better definition and clarity. The Clearway will let you see further into and get more involved with the music you listen to. Right now cables need to be better than ever, there are very affordable turn tables and digital players that deliver music with real coherence. The jump in performance over the past couple of years has been amazing, especially in relation to less expensive equipment. They need a new generation of cables, and those cables need to be able to carry a signal with the musical coherence that the new digital and analogue players are producing.
Standard lengths are 1m and 0.5m and because the Clearway is built in-house, custom lengths are available.
Clearway Analogue RCA to DIN
The Clearway interconnect uses the same ARAY conductor geometry that Chord first used on the Chord C-line, and they've upgraded all the materials. The ARAY geometry conductors are heavier gauge oxygen free copper, insulation has been upgraded to FEP and the shielding is a dual-layer counter-wound heavy gauge foil design.
Not every cable works with DIN connectors so one of the key areas during the design of the Clearway Analogue cable was that it could be used to produce a high performance cost effective DIN to DIN and DIN to RCA cable. All Clearway analogue cables are built in house and the DIN terminated versions of the Clearway analogue require the skill and experience gained from spending the past thirty years building and developing DIN cables. Equipment that is fitted with DIN sockets tends to be either Naim Audio or older Quad equipment, Chord have huge experience in building both and the Clearway Analogue DIN cables can be fitted with either 4 pin or 5 pin silver-plated DIN plugs.
Just like the Clearway RCA the Clearway DIN cables use the same ARAY conductor configuration to produce DIN to DIN and DIN to RCA cables that carry a musical signal with the same degree of musical coherence and detail that the RCA version carries. Whether it’s a current Naim amplifier or an old Quad pre and power amplifier the DIN terminated Clearway cables will let you hear more of the performance that these components are capable of.
Clearway Analogue subwoofer cable
The Clearway interconnect uses the same ARAY conductor geometry that Chord first used on the Chord C-line, and they've upgraded all the materials. The ARAY geometry conductors are heavier gauge oxygen free copper, insulation has been upgraded to FEP and the shielding is a dual-layer counter-wound heavy gauge foil design.
One instantly noticeable area where ARAY and Tuned ARAY cables really shine is across the bass frequencies. The control and definition they bring is instantly noticeable. Better dynamics, improved timbre and much better coherence make ARAY and Tuned ARAY cables particularly good choices for use with subwoofers – particularly if you are using a subwoofer for music as well as home theatre.
Given its cost and its performance over longer cables lengths we think that the Clearway subwoofer cable is about the perfect compromise between cost and performance.
The Clearway Subwoofer cable is available fitted with Chord VEE 3 silver-plated RCA plugs and Neutrik silver-plated XLR connectors. Standard lengths are 3m and 5m, with custom lengths available to order.
Clearway Analogue XLR
The Clearway interconnect uses the same ARAY conductor geometry thatChord first used on the Chord C-line, and Chord have upgraded all the materials, The ARAY geometry conductors are heavier gauge oxygen free copper, insulation has been upgraded to FEP and the shielding is a dual-layer counter-wound heavy gauge foil design.

The design of the Clearway Analogue cable means that Chord can adapt the ARAY conductor configuration to produce a particularly good XLR terminated cable. The design allows using identical conductors for the hot, cold and earth connections. This allows Chord to produce an exceptionally neutral and musically transparent Clearway Analogue XLR cable. The Clearway analogue is fitted with Neutrik silver-plated XLR plugs. Standard lengths are 1m and 0.5m, with custom lengths available to order.
Clearway Digital
The very first Tuned ARAY cable Chord developed was the Chord Sarum Digital and when they heard what it could do they took the idea and developed it for analogue and power cables as well. Digital cables don’t make a difference? Well it’s true that a lot of digital cables are fundamentally 75 Ohm coaxial designs. Tuned ARAY is different – it’s a unique conductor configuration and the Clearway digital uses the same Tuned Conductor geometry as the original Sarum Digital. That makes it a very special digital cable and one you need to listen to. It isn’t necessarily detail you’re listening for – it’s something far easier to hear, its musical coherence, something that a lot of what used to be called “entry level” equipment is getting very good at producing.
Clearway Speaker Cable
The Clearway uses 14 AWG multi-strand oxygen free copper conductors – big enough to bring control and definition to both book shelf and floor standing loud speakers. The insulation is FEP which has a very similar performance to PTFE. The choice of insulation has a profound effect on the ultimate performance of a speaker cable and FEP contributes to the neutrality of the Clearway speaker cable. Other types of insulation will often produce unwanted tonal colourations and while your music should be full of colour your cables shouldn’t. The conductors are arranged in a twisted pair configuration before a soft PVC internal jacket is applied, this helps to minimise mechanical noise and also spaces the twin contra-wound foil shields in relation to the conductors.
Shielding a speaker cable brings subtle nuances that make music come alive. Clearway can transform the performance of your system particularly when it comes to coherence and timing. It will let you further into your favourite music.
